In Vermont summer is short and sweet! We celebrate with festivals every weekend ( it is such a small state that you can get anywhere in under 3 hours), enjoying Lake Champlain, farmer's markets, growing gardens, and preparing entries for the Fair ( we have one big one at the end of August and several county fairs throughout the summer). Vermont is agricultural and summer and harvest time are the highlights of the year. Summer for my children is jumping in fresh mown hay, picking and eating sweet corn, wiffle ball tournaments, building fairy houses, planting our halloween pumpkins, and raising a calf to show at the fair this year! We love our sun seasons!

Thanks for reminding me, it does matter where you live! My niece and I actually brought jackets when we went to the Fremont Summer Solstice parade, though we didn't need them.

Waverly:

Summer here [in Utah] is a time to hide from the sun and the heat. The community tries to hold the occasional traditional summer fair or event, but it usually melts. My boss is adamant that the agency hold a community event, outdoors, to celebrate the Americans with Disabilities Act on the day it was signed: July 26th or really close to it. So, today, I get to "look forward to" participating in a long march/parade and hosting a festival out doors. OMG! At least the guy in charge of the event this year told me I could return to the office after the parade if I couldn't do the heat. I don't know how the boss can assume that the community would want to be outdoors in 100 plus degree heat on a weekday, no less. But he does, consistently every year for the seven years I've been there. I guess he hasn't caught on to the reason why the community doesn't celebrate the founding of our State a few days prior to the ADA date. It's difficult enough to get people out to watch fireworks on the Fourth.

Speaking of this, gotta go get ready to meet the heat. UGH!
